From earliest times, women have been known to create some of the world's most famously appreciated alcoholic beverages - from Claret to Australian vintages

Whether keen on claret, a champagne connoisseur or merely a lover of good wine, somewhere in the background of a wine-lover’s chosen tipple, there’s sure to be a woman’s influence.
Women Running Vineyards – The Feminine Touch

It is said that a woman’s work is never done and in today’s wine world, this is still true. It was once unusual to find a woman in charge of a commercial vineyard unless she was the widow of a vigneron. Now there are numerous women controlling large estates, as well as having the responsibility of marketing their own wines. This is particularly true in North America where there are many female wine-growers. In Australia and New Zealand, many females are taking up the profession.
A Royal Princess

One of the earliest legendary women to have some influence on wine was the chief wife of Jamsheed, a Persian prince. She was feeling dejected at having been supplanted by a younger wife and decided to kill herself by drinking the contents of a sealed amphora which the prince had labelled ‘poison.’
